Seattle Modern Waterfront Home

Union Bay Residence

This waterfront Seattle residence is both a practical family home and an elegant oasis of space and light. It is also a return to roots, as the new house rests on the site of the owner’s childhood home.

Refuge and Prospect

One wing is all about retreat—a cozy den, luxurious master bath, and tranquil master bedroom. The other embraces togetherness in the form of a spacious kitchen, family room, and breakfast bay overlooking the water. Between these two volumes is a series of lofty open spaces for indoor and outdoor entertaining.

Making Connections

The stair continues the lofty and open theme, joining the floors with a resin railing that allows light to pass through. The tapered steel stair stringers are inspired by grasshopper legs. The subdued materials palette is an understated yet elegant foreground to the expansive water views.
